Major transits for 2010
Mars in Leo 2010
The year kicks off with Mars – the planet of strength, energy & assertiveness in the sign of Leo. This transit stands out, as Mars is in the sign of Leo for an unusually long period – namely 9 months, until June 7.
A positive mars in Leo gives us determination, ambition and leadership, whereas a negative mars makes us very egotistical, intolerant and melodramatic.
For the first couple of months, Mars goes retrograde in Leo, so we might find ourselves going over old ground. Issues, projects, plans commenced in the final months of 2009 may not be successfully resolved until mid March.
Check your chart to find out where the passionate action will be for you by looking for any planets in Leo, and the house which is ruled by Leo.
Also the fixed signs of Leo, Taurus, Scorpio and Aquarius – can find that this transit brings in some confrontational issues.
Most baby boomers born up to mid 1957 have the outer planet Pluto in Leo, so they will experience some confrontational issues surrounding the ego during this period.
Baby boomers born between August 1946 and September 1948 also have Saturn in Leo, as well as some Generation X ‘s born between June 1976 and July 1978.
These groups will find it particularly hard going, and will have to apply themselves to hard work under difficult conditions.
Jupiter in Pisces & Aries 2010
Jupiter enters Pisces on 19 January, whizzing through the whole sign without a retrograde period until 7th June, when it enters Aries for a short period. On 10 September it again enters Pisces and stays there for the rest of the year.
Jupiter is the benefic planet which brings expansion and good fortune. It’s a great planet to watch when looking at transits to your natal chart, as combined with the Sun, Moon, and Venus is considered the most beneficial times for individuals.
Also when combined with your natal Saturn it can herald a good time for buying or selling property.
As Pisces is a water sign, this transit of Jupiter in Pisces can bring benefits to those born under the other water signs, namely Cancer and Scorpio.
With Jupiter in Pisces our imaginations and creativity will be stirred, we may want to travel and indulge ourselves in our fantasies, undertake escapist activities or get involved in causes which help the needy.
Jupiter enters Aries for a brief period (7th June – 10th September) and during this period will form part of the T-Square 2010, see below.
Jupiter in Aries takes on a completely different tone, and we will find that benefits arising from leadership and new ideas. As Jupiter only travels into Aries up to the first 3 degrees this year, most Aries born will have to wait until March next year to experience its benefits.
Uranus in Aries 2010
Uranus enters Aries on 29th May for a very brief period until 14th August moving back into Pisces for the rest of the year. Whilst occupying the 0 deg Aries point, (the point which marks the beginning of the Zodiac and which has come to symbolize the collective) and which therefore takes on great significance in astrology, also forms part of the T square 2010 .
Uranus the planet of sudden change, upheaval, inventiveness and rebellious spirit, will take on a whole new persona in Aries – the sign of new ideas, beginnings, action. Expect sudden changes, or new radical ideas emerging.
Again most Aries will have to wait until 2011 to experience the full force of Uranus in Aries, but those born on the first or second day of Aries will already feel sudden upheavals or changes which will be the start of something completely new during this period.
Those with planets around the Aries point and first degree of the other cardinal signs, namely, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn, may also experience these sudden changes due to new beginnings and radical fresh ideas.
Saturn in Libra 2010
The new year finds Saturn in Libra until April 8th and moving back into Virgo until 21 July. After this date it continues its journey through Libra for the rest of the year.
On 22 July it is involved in the T square 2010.
Saturn is exalted in the sign of Libra, so we find Saturn operating at its very best during most of this year.
Saturn is the task master of the zodiac which brings us structure, discipline, hard work, restrictions and fear. Generally, Saturn is considered the place which represents our karma or where our life’s lessons must be learnt. Over time, after applying the learnings from our life’s experiences, we will reap the benefits.
Libra is the sign ruling relationships, fairness, seeking balance, peace and beauty, so with Saturn in this sign the universe is asking us to find these qualities in all our partnerships and relationships with others. It is also asking us to consider commitment in relationships.
The Saturn return at age 28-30, and each 28 years thereafter, is considered to be a major milestone in a person’s life.
Generation Y born between late September 1980 – late November 1982, will be experiencing their first Saturn return during 2010.
Issues surrounding commitment in relationships and establishing relationships based on mutual fairness and balance will be prominent for this age group. The Saturn return marks the official point of embarking on adulthood, so decisions on marriage, house buying or having children will be utmost in Gen Y’s minds.
Baby boomers born between August 1951 and October 1953 will be experiencing their 2nd Saturn return, and will find that decisions made or lessons learned during the past 28 years will effect their lives as they enter the retirement stage. Any lessons poorly learned will arise again – so it always pays to learn those lessons first time around.
It’s best to get a Saturn return chart done by an astrologer if you are undergoing a Saturn return in 2010, to reveal the full impact of this important milestone in your life.
Pluto in Capricorn 2010
Pluto continues its transit through Capricorn in 2010, and we will continue to see the increase of government power and large institutions/corporations. Governments will get involved in any ventures which make money for them and which will increase their powers. As this is a very long transit, it is wise for parents with children embarking on careers to choose a career with Government or well established institutions/corporations, as this is where all the power and action will be over the coming decade.
Saturn has been squaring Pluto since November 2009, and we may have all witnessed the beginnings of the tearing down of social structures which are no longer working.
Saturn in Libra brings social structures into equilibrium, and Pluto destroys that which no longer works. The pressure of this square will become so uncomfortable, that it will be impossible not to take some action in all kinds of relationships which are flawed.
In personal charts, the cardinal signs of Cancer, Libra, Capricorn and Aries will be effected by this square, especially those born in the very early degrees of these signs.
So expect further changes to social structures as this square still operates until April 2010. There will be some relief until July 2010 – but then brace yourself for the cardinal T Square of 2010.
The Cardinal T square 2010
By now you would have realized that the great action lies around the early degrees of the cardinal signs – 0-3 degrees of Cancer, Libra, Capricorn, and Aries.
Any charts with points and planets occupying these degrees will certainly feel the full force of this T square. (Saturn in Libra, Uranus, Jupiter in Aries and Pluto in Capricorn, all around 0-3 deg.)
(In astrology, the square aspect creates pressures which build up to a point which forces us to act to relieve the strain of this pressure. The energy created by the square is the catalyst for change, so we all need such aspects to get us moving.)
The early cardinal signs will be the initiators of new ideas and new ways of doing things. They will be charged with bold enthusiasm with Jupiter and Uranus in Aries, and will have the courage to act on what is feared and resisted by others.
As the Aries Point is involved – the T square will take on a flavour which connects with the collective.
In astrology, the combination of the planets Jupiter and Uranus is considered the “thank the Lord” aspect, and usually brings some relief from difficult circumstances.
In other words, if the Saturn/Pluto square has brought about change to your life which manifests during the early part of the year, you may find that this change will give you great relief by mid year.
On a collective level, governments will embark on change, challenging old structures and ways of doing things. However, we might all be relieved around 22 July when this T-square becomes exact, as the effects of change may not be so bad after all. As Governments will probably offer sweeteners to lessen the blow of the radical changes.
